Best Thrift Find EVER!

Hello everyone!

I would just like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all of the kind comments on my last post! When I woke up this morning and read all of your sweet remarks, I really couldn't help but smile and be in such a happy mood! It means so much to me to have all of your support when I'm having a bad day. I've always loved the quote, " If you can't love me at my worst, then you don't deserve me at my best!" Yes, some days are just plain bad andcan make a person feel awful, but then there are wonderful days that make a person feel like they're on cloud nine!

Today was a much better day than yesterday thank goodness! It was, however, the Dreaded School Picture Day today though... Ugh, school pictures have never been my favorite. I always feel like my hair looks out of place, or my smile looks so fake. This year is actually the last year I ever have to take school pictures! Hooray! :) Hopefully they turn out well. I'm crossing my fingers, and I'll show you the pictures (even if they're terrible!) when I receive them. I promise!

So, I'm sure you all are thinking right now, "Lauren stop jabbering on about school and get to this 'best thrift find ever deal'!" I'm getting there in my good ole time...

Two Saturdays ago I was doing my usual Saturday morning, relaxing thrift shopping and went to my favorite thrift store. I didn't have any money and really wasn't planning on buying anything, but decided to just look to see if there was anything anyways. Well, I spotted a new rack of clothes on display and became so excited when I started flipping through the clothes and seeing that they were a bunch of authentic 50's, 60's and 70's clothes. I was about half way through the rack when I spotted The Dress. It was this beautiful, 1950's aqua blue ball gown with intricate sequin detailing on the bodice and a full princess skirt. I quickly snatched the jewel up before anyone else could and practically ran to the dressing room to try the dress on. I was in utter shock at what I had just found. Upon trying the dress on it fit almost perfectly, but it was just a tad to big in the bust. I knew that didn't matter though, and I decided right then and there I was going to buy the dress even if I had to count out every penny of my change. In fact, I did pay for the dress in change: eighth dollars worth!

Honestly, that was the best eighth dollars that I've ever spent in my life though. I mean, I LOVE THIS DRESS! It is everything I have ever dreamed to wear to prom. I mean, never in a million years did I think I would own an authentic, 1950's prom dress of my own. If I did dream about owning one, I expected to pay quite a pretty penny for it. But I bought my dream dress for eighth dollars?! I was on such an amazing high that whole day!

Well the same day I bought the dress, I took it to my very talented seamstress to alter and I just picked up the finished dress yesterday (that was the little sunshine in my day I mentioned)! Also, yesterday I looked up the maker of the dress called "Emma Domb." Now, I look up all the names of all my vintage clothes to see if the maker is ever anyone prominent, but probably 9.5/10 times the brand doesn't even come up.

When I typed in Emma Domb into the computer today, here's the exact information I came up with on every site:

"Emma Domb was a California dressmaking company that was active from 1939 through the 1970s. Domb Manufacturing Company was owned by Emma Domb and Lorraine Domb Steinberg. They specialized in wedding, party and prom dresses, and were also known for fancy date ensembles. These dresses are definitely worth collecting"

There were also many different Emma Domb dresses that came up in the search that are on sale on different vintage clothes websites. Almost all of the dresses are from the 1950's, and I am assuming because of the silhouette of my dress that it is a 50's dress, too. Also, I was shocked to find that no Emma Domb dress sells for under $350. They are true collector pieces and valuable vintage dresses!

I don't think I have been this excited about a thrift find EVER. This dress in my absolute dream dress, and I don't think I'll be able to wait until May to wear it to prom! The past few days I can't stop trying the dress on and twirling around in front of my mirror, pretending I'm a beautiful girl from the 1950's.... :)

With much love, Lauren.
