Inspirational Photos #3.

This week's inspirational photos are by a photographer named Nina Leen. I think that these two photos that she took are just breathtaking... There is something so intriguing and similar about the two; both ladies are taken with their back toward the camera, in beautiful dresses, looking into a mirror. I don't know, could this be the signature "thing" Nina Leen did with her photographs? Whatever it is, she sure took some beautiful photos of these 1950's models! I wish I could steal both of the dresses and wear them to prom...tehehe. Lace and polka dots; two of my favorite things!

Today was actually a fantastic day;however, I'm dreading going back to school. This morning I swam for diabetes, where I collect pledges for all the laps I swam. I hadn't been in the pool to swim laps since my swim team ended in July. Ouch,my arms are sure paying for it now! Also, today I got to spend alot of time with my boyfriend which was really nice since we have both been so busy lately. Oh, and my dad fixed the most delicious sticky bread tonight! I could hardly keeps my hands off...hehe.

I'm super excited for some blogging I have planned in the future, and near future. My grandmother just finished altering a 1960's wedding dress I gave to her a few weeks ago, and it's all ready to be worn! The dress came about from Halloween this year, where I was a bride, and my boyfriend my groom. For weeks before Halloween I scourged every thrift store in my town until I came upon the dress...for only $8! It was a huge hit at school, but sadly I do not have any "before" pictures to post on the dress. My grandmother shortened it, so rather than being full length it now touches my knees.

Also, she tucked the fabric under the arms, for it was a bit too big. Overall, it looks like a completely different dress! I'm so excited to wear it because there are three different vintage ways I want to style it. One way with black accessories, one way with red, and one way with light pink. I can hardly wait! :)

I GOT A ROMPER!

Flower Dress: Target.
Tan Trench Coat: Kohl's.
Black Tights: JcPenny's.
Black Boots: Thrifted.
Pearl Necklace: Thrifted.
Pink Beret: Target.

Obviously, lol, this is not the romper, but it's the outfit I wore yesterday. Today though, I got what I have been coveting for quite sometime..A sweet, delicate, summer ROMPER!

With a friend I went shopping today and wasn't even planning on looking, let alone buying anything. However, surprisingly enough at JcPenny's ( one of the last places I though I'd ever find a romper) there it was! I was so shocked that I actually gasped! It's exactly what I've been looking for... It is denim, and has little brown buttons going down the bodice. The romper also has two pockets, adorned with ruffles, and the top of the romper has delicate ruffles as well. The straps of the top tie in bows, which is nice that you can adjust to whatever length you like. The price was the cherry on the ice cream sundae; only $21!

For awhile, I had been looking and contemplating on whether or not to order a romper from Forever21. It is the only place I have ever really seen rompers, and at a decent price. I was hesitant though because I didn't know how a romper might look on my short stubby legs, so I held off. Thank goodness I did! I like this romper much more than the ones I looked at online, and I didn't have to pay shipping! Today was sure a fantastic day :) ( although it is still snowing like mad out!)

Bonnie and Clyde Inspiration.

Well, here as promised are the Bonnie and Clyde photos from Harper's Bazaar Magazine! I think the thing I like most about the pictures are all the little berets...ha, imagine that! There's just something I cannot put my finger on for why I like these pictures so much.. I think it's because they tell a actual story, unlike a lot of typical fashion spreads. Every picture is like a still from a movie, and the models don't seem too pose-y and stiff. Everything is natural, as well as the clothes! Sometimes I believe that I dress too fancy for everyday life, maybe perhaps I should dress more casually. Of course, I would still stay true to my style, but these pictures have shown me that you can look fantastic not completely dolled up all the time!

R.I.P. Wooden Shoes...

White Tank: Thrifted.
White Button Up: Kohl's.
Jeans: Kohl's.
Rock Long Necklace: Kohl's.
Wooden Wedges: Gabriel Brother's. (R.I.P.)

Sadly, today was the last day for my wooden wedges...For months the straps have been breaking; however, I would just cut that strap off and the shoes were fine. Yesterday though, two of the straps broke on one shoe, and one strap on the other. I couldn't hardly walk to my house without falling on my face because there was nothing left to hold my feet in! I really loved those wedges.. I first saw them on Forever21.com, but never ended up getting them. Quite a few weeks ,maybe months later, I was shopping at Gabriel Brother's when I stumbled upon the shoes; for a third of the price to boot! Obviously, lol there was a defect in the shoes because only after a few times of being worn they started to deteriorate. Oh well, they got good use.

This outfit in particular is not something I would usually wear at all, but I decided to try something different and spice things up a bit! The inspiration for it was actual a spread in Harper's Bazarr like the Bonnie and Clyde pictures. I got a lot of compliments on it at school, but I already miss my dresses... Back to my comfort zone tomorrow! :)

Just Call Me Bonnie Parker!

This outfit was so much fun to wear; I really felt like Bonnie Parker! You know Bonnie and Clyde, the robbers and criminals during the 1930's? The fashion shoot Harper's Bazaar did that was Bonnie and Clyde themed was just brilliant and so chock full of inspiration..I had to try and do my best imitation! I'm hoping to soon(maybe tonight!) post some more pictures from the shoot in the magazine. Trust me, the berets, oxford heels, and adorable scarfs and pencil skirts won't disappoint!

Checkers Anyone?

Plaid Sweetheart Neckline Dress: Forever21.

Black Turtleneck: Kohl's.
Black Tights: JcPenny's.
Black T-Straps: Gabriel Brother's.
Actually, I am one day behind on outfit posts; this was yesterday's! I'm running out of "interesting" places to take blog pictures at. With all the snow it's impossible to do anything creative without trudging through knee deep snow! To my surprise, we actually got a snow day today; but not because of snow! Last night it rained, and since it is so cold here the rain froze into ice. This was our last snow day the school allows us to have, any days now that we miss we have to make up in the summer :(
Last night was sort of perculiar, but in a good way. I was in an extremely creative mood,so it was easy to put some nice outfits together! Awhile back, I got the latest issue of Harper's Bazzar in the mail and was flipping through the pages last night when I became inspired! There is an editioral in the magizine that is Bonnie and Clyde themed; it's fantastic!! I cannot wait to post some pictures of the outfit that I created, and the picture that inspired it!

Polka Dot 1960's Dress: Vintage Store.
White T-shirt: Kohl's.
Red Heels: Kohl's.
Red Wide Brimmed Hat: Thrifted.
This dress is the last actual vintage dress that I have left to take pictures of for my blog, but it is without a doubt one of my favorite vintage dresses! Everything about the dress just screams "fun"...the peter pan collar, the polka dots, the little bow on the bottom.... In the summer this dress is perfect to wear;and I have to admit it looks much better without a t-shirt under it! However, sometimes we all have to put a little something extra over or under our favourite summer pieces to transition them into winter!

Tomorrow my dress from Forever21 is coming in..I'm estatic! Getting packages in the mail always gives me something to look forward to during the long and terrible school week...I was thinking the other day, and kind of kicked myself in the butt at a realization I had. Lately, I've been really wanting a floppy brimmed straw hat to wear in the summer time. They're so adorable, and I believe they are an imporatant staple to have in the summer; for fashion and skin protection! While browsing around on Forever21.com I came across the perfect one, but I had already put my order in for my dress! Arghh.. I guess I should look around more carefully before I place my orders, this is a great lesson learned! Also, I kicked my self in the butt again because I thought about never gettting a straw hat that was at my favorite thrift store quite awhile ago. At the time I wasn't particularly interested in straw hats, and thought I was just wanting something I didn't need to waste my money on. Guess I was wrong... A second lesson was learned here; always trust your gut feeling, it's usually right!

Inspirational Photos #2.

The pictures I have in this week's inspiration post are of the beautiful 1950's model, Dovima.. While scanning through pictures last weekend to do an inspiration post, I came across a whole set of her photos and fell in love with how her beauty was captured in old photos. Sadly, all the pictures I saved of her for some reason did not end up saving, and I could not do a post last week. However, I was bound and determined to hunt down some of the photos from last week so I could do a post on them this week!
Dovima did not start her life out being a model, but she was actually discovered by a Vogue photographer on the streets of New York. Her first and most famous picture is the third one above, titled " Dovima with the Elephants," and there are actually prints of the picture in The Metropolitan Museum. For the shoot, Dovima wore a Dior gown, which was the first evening dress designed by his assistant at the time, Yves St. Laurent. Unfortunately, Dovima died in 199o at the young age of 62, from liver cancer.
Dovima was considered the super model of the 1950's, and I must agree! She is beyond beautiful, and is such a phenomenal inspiration from the 1950's.

A Spring Maxi Dress!

I had a little bit of money saved up from various things, and just the other day when I saw this dress on Forever21, I knew exactly what I wanted to spend my money on! The detail on the neckline is beautiful, so intricate and delicate. Oh, and the the color? Equally as exquisite! I don't have any pieces of clothing in this color, so it will be an excellent addition to my wardrobe. My gut feeling is that I won't be able to wait until spring/summer to wear this dress, imagine that! I have to start brainstorming some ideas of how I could possibly make this dress a little warmer to wear in my terrible snowy Ohio weather. What do you think? Should I save the dress until spring? Tuesday is when the dress is going to come in, so I'll have to wait until then to decide I suppose!
P.S. Tonight we are celebrating with a little party for Dad's birthday, which is tomorrow. He will be officially, " over-the-hill!" Hehehe..

A Rather Strange Little Incident..

Just two days ago I had something that has never before in my life happen; I fainted! I had not been feeling well all Tuesday, I was extremely nauseous. That night, I tried getting a hot bath to soothe my stomach, but the bath only ended up making me feel worse... I got out of the bath tub, for I thought I was going to get sick, and I just remember everything going black. The next thing I knew, I was half way down the steps outside of the bathroom with my dad holding me up from falling the whole way! It was a shocking and strange experience that was not particularly pleasant and not something I would ever like to experience again. From the time where I blacked out, to when I woke up in my dad's arms I cannot remember anything. It's a scary thing fainting!
Anyways, after that event everything had been quite uninteresting in comparison; however, I have an extremely busy weekend coming up. All of my family is coming to my house tomorrow to celebrate my dad's 50th birthday! It will definitely be a full house, and very chaotic with everyone running around in close quarters. Saturday,I will be celebrating Chinese New Year at a Chinese buffet with my family and a group we belong to called the Mothers with Asian Children. ( My sister is adopted from China) I'm looking forward to going ,for I get to wear a beautiful red Chinese dress that I thrifted back in October. I have been waiting for months for this occasion. :)
P.S. Look at the picture above of the tree I took today. Isn't itbeautiful all the ice the tree has on it? Oh, how the world has so many wonderful little things!
