2010 Review: July-December.

July 2010.
In July I went on a mini vacation with my family and Matt the to largest water park in the USA: Kalahari! I was also lusting after Modcloth which I recently had discovered.

August 2010.
I turned seventeen on August 1st! I also bought my first dress from Modcloth for my homecoming. Another first I had was going to an estate sale.

September 2010.
September is when I did a retro inspired shoot with an phenomenal photographer and fellow fashion blogger from my school named Blake Jacobsen. I also took a week long break from blogging because of problems with some of my classmates.

October 2010.
In the middle of October I went to Homecoming with Matt: his last one since he's a senior! Us Weekly.com also featured a photo of me online as one of the best celebrity costumes. I had dressed up like Angelina Jolie for spirit day at school! I also created a homemade Barbie doll in a box costume for Halloween.

November 2010.
In November I celebrated my one year blog anniversary! For the occasion, I hosted my first giveaway with a clutch and a pin as prizes.

December 2010.
Not too much happened in December other than lots of snowy weather and I got blunt bangs!

Hello everyone!

I'm actually kind of sad that 2010 will be over, but excited to start a new year with a clean slate!

Hope everyone is doing well!
With much love, Lauren.

P.S. I was incredibly shocked to see that the lovely blogger, Justice Pirate, featured me on her tumblr as her modest outfit inspiration of the day. I am incredibly flattered and in awe because she is a huge inspiration to me and I'm always so captured by her stunning photos and beautiful vintage outfits. To be featured by her is somewhat like a dream I never thought could happen!

2010 Review: January-June.

Janurary 2010.
In January I fought through a very cold and snowy month to take blog pictures. All I could dream of was summer dresses, and insisted on wearing short sleeves!

February 2010.
In February was a very vintage inspired month. I replicated a lot of looks from every time period from the 1920's to the 1970's. In addition, I also had a very scary first experience with fainting!

March 2010.
March was a huge month for me in blogging. I received my first comment and follower, along with completing my 100th blog post! Also, I had a creepy 80 year old man ask me out on a date. Eeep!

April 2010.
April is the month that I probably did the most thrift shopping out of the whole year! I went to a rummage sale or garage sale every weekend, and brought home tons of treasures. This whole outfit was all thrifted from just one rummage sale!

May 2010.
In the beginning of May Matt and I went to prom! I was also in a fashion show for my favorite local thrift store.

June 2010.
This was probably my most inspirational month out of the whole year and where I did some of my absolute favorite shoots ever. Matt and I celebrated our three year anniversary and did a vintage photo shoot. I was in awe when this picture was on the Chictopia front page!

Hello everyone!

It's so hard to believe how quickly 2010 has flown by. When looking back at all my old posts today to gather my favorite pictures from each month it was...weird. I remember how I was feeling or what I was thinking when a certain outfit picture was taken. Some of these shoots just feel like I did them yesterday! I think that 2010 was a really incredibly year for me. In some ways I think it was finally the year I found my true self, and I believe that I have this blog to thank for that. Looking back has helped me to see how much I have grown and changed. Not just physically, but in the way think, act, and live my life as well! I hope you all enjoyed looking back at the months January-June of SomeoneLikeYou! Either late tonight or early tomorrow I'll be posting July-December.

Hope everyone is doing well!
With much love, Lauren.

Knock On Wood.

Blue Floral and Polka Dot Dress: Gift (Urban Outfitters).
Pink Cardigan: Forever21.
White Sweater Tights: Gift.
Key Necklace: Gift from Matt.
Tan Heels with "Clog like attributes": Target (Bought with gift card: $20).

Hello everyone!

Don't let my new gorgeous heels from Target fool you all: they're not made of real wood. Looks can be deceiving but these babies are made out of 100% PLASTIC! Nonetheless, I love them just as much. It's funny because I am vehemently against any shoe that looks like a clog. I can't help it, I just have an unexplained hatred for clogs. Then why the heck was I so attracted to these shoes that have many "clog like attributes?!" Hmm. Well, I'm still contemplating that one. ;)

Well, enough rambling! I need to get on with what I promised yesterday: the five reasons I love blogging from the award Brooke gave me of Brooke's Little Nook.

  1. It's one of the only places I can be myself. In my everyday life I always feel like such an outcast whom no one understands. Not many people at school bother to talk to me, but this blog is where I can just forget about my real life and be me for a change. I get to release all of my bottled up emotions and feelings and say all of the things I wish I could say to the people at school. This blog is like my best friend. It knows everything about me, all my secrets, and is always there when I need it.
  2. I have met so many incredible people. Seriously, I never thought I would meet so many people who have common interests and the same mindset as myself. Up until I started blogging I actually thought it wasn't humanly possible to find anyone like myself! I am so incredibly grateful for every single one of my 89 followers and I try to get to know each one personally. Through this blog I have met some of the kindest, funniest, talented, inspiring people I would have never otherwise known.
  3. I have become so inspired. In my little town in Ohio there isn't much going on fashion wise. If not for all of the amazing blogs I follow and come by I don't think my style would be the same as it is today! I have gained so many new ideas, tips, and insight through the blogging world it's crazy. Seeing the creativity others has inspired me to try out new outfits, trends, hairstyles, and even things for my blog.
  4. I have inspired other people. Nothing makes me feel better to get on my blog at the end of a long, discouraging day of school and see a comment from one of my readers that says "you inspire me." I'm seriously on cloud nine after I receive a comment like that! Never in a million years did I ever think I could be an inspiration out there for anyone. I have so many people in my life that I look up to, and to have someone look up to me is just mind blowing. You all have helped me believe in myself and realize that I'm actually worth looking up to.
  5. The kindness that is spread. I think that in today's world there's more bad than good. There's more negative rather than positive. With blogging, those statements are opposite. I'm in disbelief of how supportive and incredibly kind the blogging community is. Everyone supports everyone no matter what his or her individual style is, and I think that's something that this world needs more of. Acceptance of everyone no matter what they look like and who they are.

Hope you all are doing wonderful!
With much love, Lauren.

Back To The Future.

Striped Dress: Gift (Forever21).
Black Scarf: Gift.
Patterned Tights: Gift.
Black Oxfords: Gift (Forever21).
Pearl Clip Earrings: Thrifted.
Patent Belt: Kohl's.

Hello everyone!

Often times I feel as though I am stuck in the past. Not necessarily the past of my own life, but the past of life in general. The way I dress, my ideals, beliefs, and thoughts are those of a girl in the 1950's. I've always thought I would have just fit better if I had been born oh, let's say in 1953 rather than 1993.

Today it was actually strange for me to wear such a modern outfit. I generally have people stare at me when I wear a vintage inspired look, but it is a stare of admiration. I was disgusted to be stared at today because of lust. Sometimes I don't even know how to dress like a modern teenager, but I'm glad I don't. When going to the mall a few days ago, I was shocked to see how sexualized and revealing the clothing is. What's more shocking is that teenagers actually buy these clothes. What ever happened to the peter pan blouses and circle skirts? What ever happened to the voluminous prom dresses with petticoats that brushed the floor? These items have been replaced with cleavage baring tank tops and mini skirts showing more leg than I'd ever care to see. These beautiful, elegant prom dresses have been replaced with tight, short, ruched stripper dresses.

What ever happened to dressing like a lady?

Ironically enough Matt and I watched the movie Back To The Future tonight. It really made me stop and think about the way our society dresses today. I stared in awe at the gorgeous dresses and hairstyles that the movie replicated from the 1950's. It was truly so inspiring. After watching the movie tonight, I made note in my head of something: to never stop dressing like a lady. I don't want to ever give in to dressing to please guys, or dress sexier to make myself feel beautiful. My girly, modest, retro dresses are perfect just the way they are.

Hope you all are doing well!
With much love, Lauren.

P.S. Goodness, I rambled too much today... I'm going to have to post my five things I love about blogging tomorrow! Oppsie :)

Be Thankful For What You Have.

(Christmas presents from my parents)

(All of my Christmas presents)

Hello everyone!

I feel incredibly spoiled (and not to mention horribly bloated...) after all of these recent Christmas festivities. I felt overwhelmed with... guilt after Christmas this year because I recieved so many lovely presents. For me it was too much. I know there are people in this world who are lucky to get one present for Christmas, or even some people who just was food for Christmas. For me to get so much when some people have so little is difficult to think about. I have a very giving family, and an equally giving extended family. All of my grandparents and relatives are still living, and I have just this incredible family who loves me so much. I am so thankful for all of my gifts, and I don't think I could ever ask or wish for more.

Here is just a list of the lovely gifts I received:

  • Six new dresses (two from Modcloth, two from F21, two from UO.)
  • My beautiful key necklace from Matt.
  • A pair of black oxford heels. Swoon!
  • Two pairs of cozy pajamas.
  • One of my favorite movies: The Time Travelers Wife.
  • The Sims 3 (which I have literally been playing nonstop. I'm officially addicted.)
  • A book about the 10 biggest Style Icons of the century. It's beyond wonderful!
  • Three scarves.
  • New tights.
  • A darling little ring.
  • Ornaments in the shapes of shoes and purses; too adorable!
  • An Audrey Hepburn Calender and coffee mug!
  • Wonderful smell goods from B&B.
  • Panties from VS Pink.
  • A towel set with shoes embroidered on them.
  • Makeup brushes, brown shadows, and cotton swabs.
  • A new vintage hat.
  • A cream, lace cardigan and an adorable peter pan collar shirt.
  • Pliable and portable ballet flats.
  • Many bottles of B&B scented hand sanitizers: I don't know what I would do without them!
  • A few gift cards to here and there.
  • And of course (too much) candy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: sometimes I believe I'm the luckiest girl in the world.

With much love, Lauren.

P.S. I received a blog award from the lovely Brooke of Brooke's Little Nook! I'll post the five reasons why I love blogging in tomorrow's post :)

Blue Heart Dress With Peter Pan Collar: Modcloth (gift).
Cream Sweater Tights: Macy's (gift).
Silver Key Necklace: Gift from Matt.
Pearl Clip Earrings: Thrifted.
Blue Bow 1950's Stilettos: Thrifted.

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas to you all!

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas... I know I certainly did! Nothing in the world is better than the warm feeling a person gets when they are surrounded by people who love them unconditionally. I couldn't have asked for a better Christmas! I am so truly blessed.

This dress is one of my Christmas gifts from my parents (thanks again guys!). All I have to say is that this dress is pretty much the dream dress I've always hoped and wished for. Maybe that explains why I posted so many pictures today, he.

Gosh, sometimes I just feel like the luckiest girl in the world... I thank God everyday for the incredible life he has given me!

With much love, Lauren.

Silver Drop Earrings: Thrifted.
Patterned Tights: Gift from my parents.
Black T-Strap Heels: Target.

Hello everyone and Happy Christmas Eve!

This is the outfit I wore to Christmas mass tonight! I've sure gotten a lot more use out of this little Forever21 dress than I thought I would. Oh, and did you notice the new little treasure I have around my neck...? It's my gift from Matt! For years I've been wanting a key necklace, and this Christmas he gave me the one I could only dream of having. It's truly perfect and I haven't taken it off since he gave it to me! I have a feeling you all will be seeing a lot of it in future outfit posts...

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas tomorrow! I am so incredibly thankful for everything God has given me in my life. I don't think I could ever express my gratitude enough! Have a lovely day with your families and I hope Santa visits you all. ;)

With much love and glad tidings,
