Victorian.

Black Velvet Dress, Floral Brooch, White Bow Wedges, Quilted Purse: Thrifted.
Lace Collar: Gift from reader Kezzie.

Hello everyone!
I'm currently in quite the predicament that thousands of other teenage girls across the United States are in right now. Sigh, none other than trying to find a prom dress. For almost all of my 'formal' dances in high school I've thrifted my dresses for next to nothing. I would casually find a dress I loved while thrifting, have it slightly altered to fit me, and be a happy girl dancing the night away at my homecoming or prom. Unfortunately, this spring I was not so lucky in having found a prom dress while thrifing. The date for my prom keeps drawing closer and closer and I am still without any trace of a dress!

In a state of panic since I'm usually way ahead of the game when it comes to dress shopping, I've been scourging online in hopes of finding a dress. I don't really know where to start to be honest! Of all of the sites I've seen (and trust me, I've looked at thousands of dresses the past few days; this isn't even an exaggeration) I haven't even come close to what I'm looking for. Everything is too revealing. Too blinged out. Too expensive. The list of no's goes on and on and on...I'm starting to get desperate that I won't find my dream dress.

Since my trusty online shopping skills have failed me, I'm going with my mother this weekend to look at some prom dress shops locally to see if I find anything, and then going to Columbus to have more of a selection. I'm currently pretty doubtful either place will turn up with anything, but that's just my pessimistic outlook like usual.

I'd love and be forever appreciative though if you all had any suggestions for online stores I could look at that you know are reliable, affordable, and at least somewhat presentable to go out into public. And if you live in Ohio, let me know if you recommend any specific places!

Thanks ever so much
With much love, Lauren.

Very adorable, I love the new collar. Also, good luck on finding a prom dress! I thrifted mine, a pretty each dress from the 50's, maybe you just need to try the thrift stores one more time? If not a vintage store would be a fun place to look!

That collar is darling. You are lucky to have received it as a gift.

Good luck with the prom dress. Maybe you have to widen your inspiration- I was positive that I wanted something princessy, but then ended up with a long, skinny black gown that reminded me of Breakfast at Tiffany's.

lauren you & your outfit look classically pretty! uggh about the prom dress hunt. this may seem far fetch, but have you heard of stacey kay from the blog goodwill huntingg? i know she lives in ohio. she is a thrift store queen/stylist, has a degree in fashion. here's her blog. http://www.goodwillhuntingg.com/

maybe you can send her an email. she responds fairly quickly. i'm sure she'd have some ideas.

I am loving this outfit!

Good luck with the prom shopping. You are on the right track with the thrifting. I wanted to buy a "new" dress for my senior prom and ended up getting one at the Goodwill anyway that fit my wonderfully! Just try not to stress about it so much; you just become frustrated and then shopping becomes not fun, and prom dress shopping should always be fun. :) I'm sure you'll find something classy and beautiful very soon!

Your outfit looks amazing. Velvet is stunning, but I can never seem to find any velvet clothing. If it isn't too expensive then it won't fit right sigh. But yours look gorgeous! Love the collar you added to it too. It give it the perfect touch. And good luck with your prom shopping! I hope you find The Dress!

I still haven't had much luck finding a prom dress either.... :( !! When is your prom?

Velvet is a very suiting fabric for you - you look beautiful! xx

You look so beautifully dainty! I love the collar and that dress is so very vintage and almost gothic? But in a classy romantic way.

Dress shopping for anything is hard and especially prom and especially after your blue dress last year (which was a beautiful beautiful stunner), but I'm sure you will find something. If you look hard enough you will! Plus Columbus has tons of good stores as well as vintage shops, boutiques, and other things that we don't have up here. Also random, but I will be in Columbus this weekend too!
