Katniss Everdeen Inspired.

Chiffon Skirt, Cat Eye Sunglasses, Leather Backpack, Straw Fedora: Thrifted.
Brown Wedges, Leaf Necklace: Target.
Ines Shapewear: c/o Vedette.

After finishing the first and second Hunger Games books, as well as, seeing the movie with Matt on Saturday it is easy to say that I am thoroughly obsessed. All I want to be lately is Katniss. Katniss, Katniss, Katniss. The girl on fire. I'd like to think this is the outfit she would wear if she was in a 'Fashion Games.' This or something with fire involved, of course! But Katniss is more than just an inspiration when it comes to fashion for me. She's an inspiration for fearlessness.

Most of the role models I've had in my life have been girly girls. Surprise, surprise, right? Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy...all are ladies of class who wouldn't dare be caught fighting to the death in the arena. But there's something about Katniss that amazes me. Yes, she is an imaginary character but that doesn't mean she can't be a role model for me and millions of other girls. She's unapologetically fearless. If you read the books you can't help but admire her and want to be her. Her selflessness to volunteer in place for her sister to fight. Her fierceness in defying the capitol- sometimes knowingly and unknowingly. Her ability to be a strong heroine and not leave all of the dirty work up to the guys. Her commitment to always being herself, never succumbing to what others want her to be. And her confidence in herself-that she can do the impossible.

No words can explain how much I want to be her. This girl who is fearless in all aspects of life. I wouldn't consider myself the least bit fearless. I cry at the drop of the hat. Cower when it comes to criticism. Admit defeat too quickly. Refuse to challenge myself mentally and physically. Although I have all these weaknesses, one of the things that is comforting is that Katniss has weaknesses, too. Her ability to be fearless isn't unattainable, but something to strive for and emulate. Something to work towards and better myself at being. I don't have to have the bravery to defy the whole government and cause an uprising, but maybe, just maybe, with the help of Katniss I can be that girl who stands up for herself. Who doesn't let her classmates push her around. Who shows what she believes in and doesn't give a darn.

And you know what? You all can be fearless, too. In all aspects of life. Something I really try to promote though here on this blog is being fearless with fashion and accepting your body. For standing up and saying, "to heck with societies' standards and ideals! I'm going to be my own beautiful and no one is going to tell me otherwise." When shape wear company Vedette contacted me and wanted to work together, I was right away convinced because they stand for empowering women to embrace their body. Their campaign is 'I'VE GOT NOTHING TO HIDE' which is so powerful. Not many girls and women in today's society can do that. They're too afraid of what society thinks of them and often times, what they think of themselves. But you know what? I want you all to be fearless like Katniss. To embrace your body type, no matter what it might be. Curvy, athletic, straight, petite, tall...All of you have something special. It just takes YOU to realize it.

So on behalf of Vedette,I am so honored to have the chance to give away THREE pieces of shape wear from Vedette's basic collection (which is anything not tagged 'Sensual.') Here are the rules;

1. Leave a comment stating you'd like to be entered.
2. Leave your email so I may contact you.
3. Like Vedette on Facebook
4. This is open to all United States and international readers.

That's it! I'll be drawing three random winners and the giveaway ends MONDAY APRIL 16TH, 2012 AT 12:00 P.M.

Best of luck, be fearless and may the odds be ever in your favor
With much love, Lauren.

P.S. The winner of the fashion show ticket giveaway is Claire of Treschic!

Katniss is inspirational isn't she? There should be more fictional female characters like her. Also, it is so wonderful to see a lingerie brand supporting positive body image! Their products look beautiful, of course I would love to enter.

Great outfit Lauren, it's got a perfect 'Forrest-y' vibe

This outfit is amazing! I love Hunger Games so much, mostly because we need someone like Katniss in modern literature today. She is so strong and selfless.

I would love to be entered for this contest, because I completely agree with you about how everyone is beautiful in their own way! I liked on Facebook!

Thanks for being an inspiration, just like Katniss. :)

Gorgeous outfit, and what an inspirational message! Katniss is such a great role model, as are you Lauren. You have such positive messages for us and reinforce time and time again that it's ok to be yourself. You are just as inspirational as Katniss.

Okay. So I think you are pretty amazing. You are honest and .. well, awesome. You talk about what you believe in and you are so passionate about it. I love the whole concept of your blog - the promotion of being fearless and accepting who you are. You are awesome :D. And I thought to myself "How could this lovely girl get any cooler?". I must admit I didn't think it possible. I thought you had reached your height of awesomeness. But then you mentioned The Hunger Games! Oh my! You had to go there. You had to become even MORE AWESOME :D!!!!

I am a huge fan of the books and the film. I read all three books for the first time with in two weeks (I was on summer break). I agree with you. I love Katniss. She is so inspirational to a multitude of people. She is amazing and I do want to be like her. So brave. So strong! So awesome.

You are awesome too! And I love this post! I will have to share it on my blog soon :D Hope you have a really wonderful day!!!

This is such a beautiful, quitely striking look, I am in love with it! (You look so awesome with your shades and hat.) I just finished reading the hunger game series and thought it was quite cool, Katniss is a good heroine. (A fantastic author is Robin Mckinnley, she write the best female heroines and does amazing rewrites of fairy tales.)

Cute outfit!
I'm undecided on whether or not to watch Hunger Games. I'm not sure It's worth my time to sit down and watch a movie about people killing each other-did it get very violent? I'm not into blood and guts movies, just curious! :)
Your outfit has almost a "safari" feel to it-very cute!

This post is so perfect! I actually am not THAT big of a fan of the Hunger Games (the romance factor ruined it for me a little bit) but can't deny how strong Katniss is. I am jealous of her...she is vulnerable and yet so bold. But thanks for the giveaway, their products are quite lovely. I think I'd like to be entered.
