Award Ceremony.

Vintage 1940's Prom Dress: Antique Store.
Black and White Pumps, Black Flower Ring: Cato's.
Earrings: JcPenny's.

Hello everyone!
Tonight I had an academic awards ceremony at school and got all fancied up. I originally bought this dress back in July for my graduation pictures at an antique shop. It was worn by a woman in the 1940's to her prom! It's super delicate and I haven't worn it since last July, but I thought tonight might be special enough to bring it out of its hiding :)

The award ceremony was a huge disappointment though. I mean, I knew I wouldn't really get anything special. I do well in school, but I'm not the smartest in my class or the most exceptional. I'm just, Lauren. There are all sorts of scholarships though that are announced at this ceremony and I was really hoping to get one...but I didn't. I don't know, I just put so much heart and soul into my essays, tried really hard, and gave it my all and I still didn't get anything. Sometimes it seems so unfair that I have just as much capability as someone else, but because they have more of a 'financial need' than me that they get the scholarship over me. Being a middle class family sucks.

I mean it's not something I really talk about a lot on here but paying for college scares the daylights out of me. Kent is a public school and I did get some money off, but it still costs thousands upon thousands of dollars a year to go there. I was just really hoping that I could get some scholarships to relieve the financial burden on my parents and myself in later years. I'm just left disappointed and bitter though because I knew from the start of my freshman year that I wouldn't get anything special.

I suppose that's just the way life goes.

With much love, Lauren.

You look so gorgeous chica. I´m loving this dress. Paying for college is one of the hardest and most stressful things I have ever had to do. I made a lot of sacrifices to go to the private school I wanted to go to and that includes arguing with my mother everytime the bill comes. It is hard, but remember how important your education is. Chin up girl!

By the way, thanks again for the guest post. Here it is, if you didn´t see it yet.

it's ok, love. i had to pay my way through school completely as well, but honestly, it's not so bad. you'll make payments after school, and it will have been so worth it. and you'll value your education so much. i know it sounds cliche & trite to say those things, but i just want to reassure you not to worry...just go, concentrate on learning, and having a great time, and cultivating your intellect as well as your character.

p.s. that dress? uh, it's perfect for you!

Sorry to hear you were so disappointed, can't believe how lucky we are here in Finland for paying so little for our education.

You look absolutely, glamorously stunning in that dress and lippie! xo

You look so lovely, Lauren. I'm sorry you felt disappointed at not receiving scholarship awards, but you'll be fine. Once you graduate and get a job student loan payments become just a monthly bill and you stop seeing them at their complete price-tag.

Also, just think that what might "ease the burden" for you can be the difference between another family giving up their grocery budget for the month to help make a dorm deposit. Being middle class does suck a bit, but not nearly as much as living in poverty does.

Haha, yeah, middle class can be really frustrating sometimes. I haven't even BEGUN stressing out about college, I'm worried enough about buying a new camera, a car, and all my swimming expenses on my own! Hopefully I'll get a job this summer.....
And this dress is absolutely lovely! I can't believe it was a prom dress, things have obviously changed since then!

I can imagine the financial implications are worrying. I am so lucky that my college fees were paid by the government because my Mum didn't earn a lot. The scholarships sound a good idea, we had nothing like that at my school. Sorry you are disappointed x

CONGRATULATIONS!!! And I get what you mean about working hard and not getting stuff for it. All my friends at school were insanely clever and I'd always have to work extra hard to be the tiniest as clever as them!! And college will be awesome ... you know it!! :P

Aw, I'm sorry you didn't get anything. :( If it's any consolation, I won't get anything, either. ;)

This dress is lovely, and I can't believe I've never seen the senior portraits post before! All of your photos turned out gorgeous and oh-so-Lauren!

I just got my senior portraits done on Monday (I know, I'm such a procrastinator!) and I cannot wait to see them! I just wore some clothes I had in my closet and my graduation dress. Eep! So excited. :D

Hope you're having a lovely day!

Im sorry you were disappointed, but those other people might not be going to college at all without the extra help. I really want to do some postgraduate study but cant because of a lack of money and a scholarship would be the only possible way.

Also, you never know what other possibilities there are when you get there. My fiance got money off his for being in the university orchestra. My Dad got money help for doing some tutoring. There are usually lots of options at the university to help you get through.

(I know I am going off Britain here, but I am assuming many of the same fundings exist)

GORGEOUS! i adore how classy you look in this outfit. Really sweet! Congratulations on graduating by the way. When did you finish? They have yet to graduate in my state. Usually people finish high school in late June! I had graduated on June 22nd almost ten years ago!
