Hi ♥
Yesterday I wore this casual outfit for a day spend with my dear parents. They took me out to eat (bless them because Kent food is terrible), did a bit of shopping, and caught up with talking. Sometimes I don't like them to come and visit me though because I hate when they have to leave. Although I am close with my friends here, there is a different kind of closeness I have with my family. I show my friends who I am, but a part of me I still hold back. Willingly or unwillingly I'm not quite sure, but they don't get to see the completely rounded out Lauren that my family does. So it's always nice to sink back into that familiarity, that safeness. But then just as soon as it's there, it's gone again and I'm left back in the emptiness of being alone here.

It's not to sound like I don't love being here--I do. I just have a very close relationship with my family which I haven't really seen in a lot of others. Some may think it's strange we're so close, and I find it strange, too. In the sense that, I talk to my mother on the phone every day, text message my little sister, and skype with the whole family every week. I've haven't seen anyone here do that and it kind of makes me sad, but also feel a bit awkward. I notice that students tend to cast off their family when they go to college and just push for independence and being on their own. It's important to still remember your parents, the two people who raised you for 18 years, and respect them after you leave. I just can't imagine not keeping them updated with my life and staying updated with their lives. Makes me sad to think that a lot of college students don't.

Anyways, those were just some thoughts I had on the weekend. The reason my parents came to visit was to come to an informational meeting about studying abroad! I am almost sure that I'll be studying in...ITALY this time next fall for a whole semester! More details on that as things come together, but I couldn't be more excited for that opportunity next year and all the ones I'll have this current school year.

With much love, Lauren.

I agree with the family thing. I'm super close to my family too and I rarely hear anyone else talking about a tight bond with their family. So I'm totally stoked that we both get to have awesome families to chat with and love with and laugh with. Cause that's a pretty cool thing.

I'm really close to my family too. We talk multiple times per week and text and all that jazz. We genuinely enjoy spending time together. I know how you feel!
Also you always look so gorgeous in red. I love this casual outfit. You're making me really look forward to wearing my berets again too!

I completely understand about family...I'm really close to my family, and all through Uni I would Skype them, email them, send them pictures....and I went home as often as I could. I couldn't have just cut off from them like I've seen others do.

Plus....how exciting about Italy!

Second, that is so exciting that you are thinking about studying in Italy! I've been considering a semester in Austria at some point in my college career. I'm sure studying abroad will bean amazing experience for you!

This top is such a lovely colour, what pretty little details too! It is sad that people tend to push their parents away when it comes to college, but I think you keeping in touch with them is lovely, I'm exactly the same and wouldn't change our relationship for the world! x

Love the boyfriend jeans and red suits you so well! I agree with being close to your family, I am too. Sundays we have family dinner that I never miss unless it's for work, and my friends think it's so strange. I'm glad there's others out there that are super close to their families too from what I see in the other comments. Congrats on Italy I hope it works out for you :)

LOVING the top- the collar is so stinking cute! And Italy is an absolutely marvelous place to get to study, especially with its artistic background.

You look so fabulous in red - definitely your color!

I talk to my family a super lot even though I'm in college! I think it is just better for some people to talk to them, but I'm sure that some people prefer not to as well. But I agree, it is a little sad!

ITALY?! Oh my goodness, can I fit in your suitcase?!
