Hi all

Whew, hello July and hello heat along with it! It's hard to wear anything cool enough in this summer heat wave we've been having lately, but I can't really complain because it's offered up perfect days for doing all sorts of fun outside activities.  Took these photos in the woods today sweating from my head to toes and getting about 10 mosquito bites; argh, I think I might actually prefer the cold and snow picture taking to the sweat and bugs!

So when I was little I loved to ride my bike, but around 10 or 11 I just got out of it for some reason. I can't really remember if I outgrew my bike and we never got a new one, or if I just lost interest...but I hadn't rode one from that time until just yesterday. It's been a goal of mine this summer to get back on a bike and get used to it again because come on, "it's like riding a bike, you never forget!" Took my mother's down from hanging in the garage yesterday and tried it around the drive way and my sister was in absolute hysterical tears watching me go about two seconds and then fearfully stopping, repeating that for a good half hour. It was hard to get my balance right and I knew it would just take some practice, but still it was frustrating to feel so inept at something so easy that even little children can do.

Why I really wanted to learn again was so I could go on bike rides with Ryan, for just something fun and different to do as a couple. So, I met him today and we went for a ride around his neighborhood and although I was pretty wobbly and scared at first, it came back to me! It sounds dumb, but I'm so proud of myself. Most of you don't realize (I don't really like talking about it because it's super embarrassing), but I am afraid of everything. If there is slight danger in anything, I won't do it. I'm terrified of getting hurt, even if it's just as simple as riding a bike, jumping on a trampoline, or doing a dive off the diving board. This personality trait in me to be extremely cautious and safe can just be embarrassing, because these are simple, easy, nonchalant things people do...but they're hard for me. I was determined though to get back into bike riding and I am so glad I did. I must admit I'm kind of obsessed with it now and even went on one again with my little sister this evening and have improved even more. Excited to go on more rides this summer and possibly around the streets of Europe soon! x

With much love, Lauren.

I remember when I got my first adult bike. I felt the same way, I had my husband running along behind me with his hand on the seat and I wouldn't let him let go. It wasn't long before I was riding 5 miles in the morning to and from work and 3 in the evening for fun. I still over do it with the safety gear though, you can never be too safe (I'm way too afraid of hurting myself)

Oh my gosh, I'm 21 and still can't ride a bike, so I totally feel you! I never even learned as a child, and I keep putting it off, but one day...

I love how casual and airy your look is, and especially love your hair scrunchie! So cute!

That's so awesome that you're getting over your fear and getting back on the bike :) I grew up riding a beach cruiser bike that I would take on all day excursions. I thought I was a pretty good cyclist until I moved to the city and got a hybrid bike. Riding up hills alongside a sea of cars on a bike I'm not used is terrifying to me. But I feel so proud of myself whenever I get on the bike and just do it so I totally understand why you feel so accomplished about this. Hope you get to ride your bike a lot this summer!

Yesterday for a friends bday, we went to a skating rink. I haven't roller skated since probably middle school (I'm 30 now)...but I thought I could easily get back into it. Omg was I wrong. I was freaked out and thought I was going to fall on my face or something worse! And I was a decent roller/blade/ice skater back then... Guess I need more practice. My ankles hurt.

First is bicycle, next is scootering around Italy! I'm so glad you decided to build your confidence back up! I still have yet to build mine up to ride around campus!

Do you know, I am the same with being scared of getting hurt! Seriously, Chris gets v perplexed by it when I refuse to do something 'quite simple' because of 'the fear'. I don't like going fast downhill on my bike because I'm.scared I'm going to topple. I only learnt to ride a bike 4 years ago, taught by Chris and it is great to be able to! X

Hooray for picking up a bike again! Bike rides sound like a lot of fun, but not in this heat! I feel you with preferring the cold to muggy hot weather and bugs. The mosquitoes we have in Georgia stay out all day long. It's awful.

But anyway, you look so cute and summery here! I love the scarf in your hair.

I think once you get used to it again you'll really love riding a bike! It's one of the most relaxing things to me. If I ride about 5 minutes from my house I hit a lot of farms, then woods and a lake. It's super peaceful.

You look darling and that's awesome that you got back on the bike! I have to make an effort to ride mine this summer (I got a really pretty mint bicycle last year and haven't ridden it yet!). Also, I'm very much the same way with avoiding fears. Maybe it's an HSP thing. But kudos to you, my friend!

Your hair bow is adorable!

I love riding bikes in the Summer- though mine has had a flat tire for a couple of years now- I would probably be wobbly too if I tried to get back on a bike!
