Katniss Everdeen Inspired.

Chiffon Skirt, Cat Eye Sunglasses, Leather Backpack, Straw Fedora: Thrifted.
Brown Wedges, Leaf Necklace: Target.
Ines Shapewear: c/o Vedette.

After finishing the first and second Hunger Games books, as well as, seeing the movie with Matt on Saturday it is easy to say that I am thoroughly obsessed. All I want to be lately is Katniss. Katniss, Katniss, Katniss. The girl on fire. I'd like to think this is the outfit she would wear if she was in a 'Fashion Games.' This or something with fire involved, of course! But Katniss is more than just an inspiration when it comes to fashion for me. She's an inspiration for fearlessness.

Most of the role models I've had in my life have been girly girls. Surprise, surprise, right? Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy...all are ladies of class who wouldn't dare be caught fighting to the death in the arena. But there's something about Katniss that amazes me. Yes, she is an imaginary character but that doesn't mean she can't be a role model for me and millions of other girls. She's unapologetically fearless. If you read the books you can't help but admire her and want to be her. Her selflessness to volunteer in place for her sister to fight. Her fierceness in defying the capitol- sometimes knowingly and unknowingly. Her ability to be a strong heroine and not leave all of the dirty work up to the guys. Her commitment to always being herself, never succumbing to what others want her to be. And her confidence in herself-that she can do the impossible.

No words can explain how much I want to be her. This girl who is fearless in all aspects of life. I wouldn't consider myself the least bit fearless. I cry at the drop of the hat. Cower when it comes to criticism. Admit defeat too quickly. Refuse to challenge myself mentally and physically. Although I have all these weaknesses, one of the things that is comforting is that Katniss has weaknesses, too. Her ability to be fearless isn't unattainable, but something to strive for and emulate. Something to work towards and better myself at being. I don't have to have the bravery to defy the whole government and cause an uprising, but maybe, just maybe, with the help of Katniss I can be that girl who stands up for herself. Who doesn't let her classmates push her around. Who shows what she believes in and doesn't give a darn.

And you know what? You all can be fearless,too. In all aspects of life. Something I really try to promote though here on this blog is being fearless with fashion and accepting your body. For standing up and saying, "to heck with societies' standards and ideals! I'm going to be my own beautiful and no one is going to tell me otherwise." When shape wear company Vedette contacted me and wanted to work together, I was right away convinced because they stand for empowering women to embrace their body. Their campaign is 'I'VE GOT NOTHING TO HIDE' which is so powerful. Not many girls and women in today's society can do that. They're too afraid of what society thinks of them and often times, what they think of themselves. But you know what? I want you all to be fearless like Katniss. To embrace your body type, no matter what it might be. Curvy, athletic, straight, petite, tall...All of you have something special. It just takes YOU to realize it.

So on behalf of Vedette,I am so honored to have the chance to give away THREE pieces of shape wear from Vedette's basic collection (which is anything not tagged 'Sensual.') Here are the rules;

1. Leave a comment stating you'd like to be entered.
