Sometimes I wonder if attending college/going to fashion school has changed my personal style. Or influenced it at least. Personal style is always changing and evolving no matter who you are or where you're at. It's adaptation. Not to mention just like how you change as a person. But I really do wonder if I ever subconsciously have altered my style to conform to my college classmates.
I feel insecure a lot of times at Kent. Everyone is so, so beautiful. Not to mention I've never seen a place full of so much personal style and individuality. In my home town I am considered very out of the ordinary and 'fashionable, (lolz)' ,but at Kent I'm nothing more than the mainstream.
It's easy to lose yourself in the push, push, push to want to be as beautiful and look as good as everyone else. I've never been one to follow trends, wear what's 'in', but at Kent I feel that shove to want to keep up with the crowd and stand out, be known, be someone amongst 27,000 people.
These feelings are constantly a battle at Kent, however, I've begun to deal with them much better as I spend more time there and get more comfortable. I think it's healthy to evolve your style. Trust me, I don't want to wear berets and only dresses the rest of my life. But it's always important to make sure to take a step back, look at yourself and your intentions honestly and ask, "am I doing this for me or for someone else?"
With much love, Lauren.
